PAW CART
The Pottawatomie & Wabaunsee County Animal Response Team (PAWCART) is a nonprofit grassroots organization of individuals with an interest in animal well-being related to emergencies or disasters. We partner with other organizations in an effort to identify resources that will assist in responding to animals in disaster.
The primary objective of PAWCARTis to organize and facilitate the four phases of emergency preparedness that affect animals in disaster. The four phases are Preparedness, Response, Recovery and Mitigation.
PAWCART works as a volunteer partner with guidance from the Pottawatomie Co. Emergency Management Office and the Wabaunsee Co. Emergency Management Office in both counties' emergency planning structure.
PAWCART Partners currently include the Pottawatomie County Emergency Management Department and Extension Office, The Wabaunsee County Emergency Management Department and Extension Office, The American Red Cross, Paws to Love, Purrfect Paws, CAT Association of Topeka, Jon Pachta, DVM, Dane Jacobsen, DVM, AJ Hildebrand, DVM.

The Pottawatomie & Wabaunsee County Animal Response Team, is a non-profit organization recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)3 Public Charity. We do not receive any government funding and rely entirely upon donations. As we have only been in exisitance since June of 2006, we are greatly in need of a trailer and additional equipment. Donations are tax deductible and greatly appreciated. Donations of new and gently used animal care equipment are always needed and you may contact either county CART Coordinator to make arrangements for delivery of such.
WHAT CART DOES WHEN NOT RESPONDING TO DISASTERS
PEACE TIME:As defined, a time when there are no disasters or emergencies. What does CART do during "Peace Time?" We use this time to train volunteers and to educate the public. CART believes that the responsibility for a pet's safety during disaster, lies with the pet owner. We are dedicated to educating the public on the importance of planning BEFORE disaster strikes for their families and their pets.
